Com o início do ano de 2023 mantivemos uma certa calma quanto à presença de orcas por toda a costa, há muito que se dirigem para o norte da Galiza mas ainda recebemos alguns avistamentos na costa portuguesa. A entrada de um numeroso grupo na zona sul do Estreito de Gibraltar, após a festa dos Reis Magos, levou-nos a emitir um alerta de precaução nas recomendações dos semáforos, logo após a receção das primeiras interações. Em poucos dias recebemos as primeiras interações. Nas imagens recebidas, pudemos observar o Gladis Negra acompanhado de sua família, embora não pudéssemos saber qual deles se aproximou desses navios.
Embora não conheçamos os locais exactos de invernada, imaginamos que na sua caça ao atum o sigam até onde as planícies abissais se tornam uma fronteira para as orcas que aí não se intrometem, regressando aos seus passos para sul e para a plataforma africana procurando para o reencontro com uma nova ninhada de atuns. Estes são os novos atuns para a época de 2023 que procuram entrar no Mediterrâneo para continuar o seu ciclo de vida. Assim começa uma nova temporada de orcas no estreito.
